about

i first came up with the refrain for this song in the winter of 2011, around the time we released The Town. i thought of the idea of the "call and answer" would reflect a lot of my feelings on death, as here is where my mind is and the group singing back the refrain is my soul insisting that i remain at peace. in the end we all die and everything that happens while living shouldn't cause such inner turmoil.

lyrics

where do we go when we say our goodbye?/
known so many people and known we all die/
in the ground restless our souls come alive/
known so many people and known we all die/
we all die and carry on

i had a friend had fear in his eye/
known so many people and known we all die/
wouldn't look right at me wouldn't tell me why/
known so many people and known we all die/
we all die and carry on

i've been well off and i've touched the sky/
known so many people and known we all die
i've dug a grave or two once in my time/
known so many people and known we all die/
we all die and carry on

so carry on when my heart says goodbye/
known so many people and known we all die/
and play all my songs in a field open wide/
known so many people and known we all die/
we all die and carry on
